Am I supposed to be in pain after I take a fitness class?
With Pilates the answer is no!

Dec 2014

If you have ever started a new workout routine, or even just changed up your current one, you've likely experienced muscle soreness the next few days. This is a very normal occurrence, so long as the aches and pains are minor and are only because your muscles are getting used to your routine.

However, if you've suffered from extreme soreness that lasts more than a few days or if the soreness becomes actual pain (like back pain) that prevents you from being able to accomplish your daily activities, there is a good probability that the way you are performing exercises is the likely culprit. Sure, high energy "boot camp" style gyms can be fun and can yield results...however, you are often on your own when it comes to performing each exercise...and the "group" is actually encouraged to push each other while an instructor leads from the front. If you have had any previous injuries or any special physical needs, there are simply too many people in class and the instructor is not trained to modify each exercise for each client. Unfortunately, just a single movement that goes against your body's current state can lead into the dangerous area of injury. That's when you are doing more harm than good.

This is exactly why Pilates was developed. In a nutshell, Pilates allows anyone who wants to exercise to be able to do so without the fear of doing something wrong and causing more harm than good. Complete Pilates & Fitness is a full-service studio using methods that change each exercise to each of our individual clients. So, even in a small group equipment class, your instructor focuses individual attention on you throughout your entire Pilates session, making sure that each exercise performed is personalized to work your body to its full potential without causing injury in the process. In fact, because Pilates focuses on making sure each side of the body has an equal workout, the body becomes more aligned...and something as simple as that can reduce or even eliminate pain you've had for years and years. It even gets rid of the pain and maximizes any other fitness program you are doing!

Pilates = Challenging, Individualized, Low Impact, Focused and FUN!
